Taj Mahal, Agra, Uttar Pradesh, India photos and words © 2012 Carmz Lopez Home of One of the Seven Wonders of the World. Not sure which version anymore. Our visit to the majestic city of Agra was a jaw-dropping experience for me and my good friend Upper. Finding comfort in vegan food was tough, but a cozy room in the simple yet adorable Tourist Resthouse was refreshing. We came all the way from noisy Delhi through a 4 hour ride aboard the Taj Express. We only had 2 days to go around the great city. On our first day, we walked aimlessly in the streets in search for Agra Fort, and much to our surprise, the red-brick solid compound was a sight to behold. Shah Jahan lived in the confines of the Agra Fort as a prisoner of his own son. The architecture, which dates back to the 1500's (Yeah, those where the years the Philippines was discovered by Magellan) was impressive. Built mostly with bricks, sandstones and marbles, the intricacy of each structure inside the walled city speaks of artistry and creativity, as well as hard-work and slavery. We spent hours moving through walls, taking photos of everything that captivated us (which was almost everything) And before we went back to our hostel that day, we saw a glimpse of the Taj through the Musamman Burj, Shah Jahan's room beside the Yamuna. Our second day will go down in my travel history as one of the most awesome experiences ever. I always knew it would be an amazing sight, but never in my whole life did I imagine that I will set foot in the grounds of the magnificent Taj Mahal. On a sunny day in August 2011, I fulfilled one of my dreams - to be face to face with the greatest monument in the world - The Taj defies all odds and shows what love is made of. And I couldn't agree more with Tagore when he said that it is..."A teardrop on the cheek of eternity." Agra is a quaint town, really really charming. It holds so much beauty within, may it be kept safe and sacred in the years to come. As the great Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan said... In Agra, "The sun and the moon shed tears from their eyes."
